Kyle Smith has spotted that
The Silver Chalice is being released on
DVD next February. This seems a tad cynical given that star actor
Paul Newman died less than 2 months ago. Newman hated the film so much that when it aired on TV in 1966 he took out a full page advert apologising for his performance. According to
Wikipedia the tactic backfired and the screening brought in higher than expected viewing figures. Peter Chattaway covers this under the heading
Bible movie completist alert!, but I can't help feeling that the timing of this DVD's release is targeted more at Paul Newman completists than anyone else.
No word yet on what, if any, extras will be included. My review of the film from last year is
here.
